Getting to know the product
TARGET My Hives is a social network and engagement hub for patients who suffer from, and clinicians who specialise in, Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU).
The platform is designed to operate alongside an 8-year clinical trial run by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. With trials that last for such a long time, patient drop-off and non-compliance is a distinct issue.
My Hives aims to resolve this issues, by helping to connect people who suffer from CSU and encourage them to share their problems and triggers. This means we’re able to gather data about the patients and not only gain a better understanding of their situation, but also look for ways to keep them engaged throughout the duration of the trial.
Creating a community
One thing we were keen to create was an online community that felt familiar to the types of interactions you’d find in social media apps. This meant exploring features such as writing status updates and uploading photos, as well as providing a way for users to follow one another in order to keep up-to-date on each others journeys.
We also wanted to give users an even more fun and tailored experience by adding the ability to customise their profile, automatically find nearby clinics, and even connect with other users who suffer from similar CSU triggers.
By implementing a sense of gamification, My Hive fosters social encouragement and helps alleviate the depression often felt by CSU sufferers.
Our role in the project
nuom were responsible for designing and developing My Hive, from the branding and wireframes right through to the front-end build and back-end integration with the Microsoft Azure Cloud.
The mobile app was also developed under nuom’s agile project management methodology, built in Swift and Java for iOS and Android respectively.
Providing continued support
Our team are continuing to support the app on an ongoing basis. This has involved monitoring crash reports, fixing bugs, and optimising the app for new Operating Systems.
We’re also continuously adding new functionality to the service, including the implementation of new languages, segmented user groups and push notifications.
The app and platform is available on the Android and iOS app stores, which can be found by searching for ‘TARGET My Hives’.
There’s also a dedicated website which can be found at www.myhives.com.
